If I hear hem hem again, I swear I will use an unforgivable on myself. Her father must be out of his damn mind if he thinks I'm going to give that woman the time of day after what happened yesterday. Honestly, dragging me there. I wanted to gouge my eyes out there was so much pink and purple. It was disgusting and she thought I'd be able to eat? Out of her bloody mind, she is.

I'll be completely honest with you, Boudicca, since you seem the sort who appreciates blunt honesty instead of going around the bend to get to it. I've technically been, for the lack of a better term, courting Dolores Umbridge the past two months to determine whether or not she would make a suitable wife (my estate requires me to marry and have an heir or else it'll cease to exist seeing as I am the last). Unfortunately, as I'm sure you read in the paragraph above, she has been driving me to the point of insanity so things will be broken off effective immediately.

The other day, at Flourish & Blotts and elsewhere in Diagon Alley, I enjoyed myself and you and I seem to get along well enough. Feel free to object if you are not feeling the same way and my presence irritates you. That being said, I have decided that if things continue the way they are, I will speak to your father. However, I won't do such if you'd prefer me not to. One negative word from you and the both of us may remain simply friends.

Now, on a more positive note, I have reservations at a restaurant in Scotland. It's just a pop away and you are welcome to join me if you'd like.

If I found you irritating, I would have found an excuse to go home very shortly after shopping in Flourish & Blotts.

We can attempt a courtship and see how we handle being in one another's company regularly before we discuss anything else. And dinner sounds lovely. I'm sure Mum will be ecstatic that I'm actually going on a date.

I'm sorry, but I do have to tease you a little bit. Dolores? What possessed you, Walden?

That's good to know.

A very sensible idea and it gives me a reason to tell Dolores to take a bloody hike. I'll drop in at your house and we can apparate there together then.

A momentary batch of insanity that lasted several months? Merlin only knows what the hell I was thinking with that. Do me a favour and don't ever wear a lot of pink.

What kind of dress code does the restaurant have? I don't want Mum getting it into her head that I should wear something ridiculously formal if it's got a mostly casual dress code.

A lot of pink? With hair red enough that I've been asked if I'm a bloody Weasley? I may not pay attention to fashion as much as some of the other society ladies, but even I know that would look awful.

It's mostly casual, but you could wear something a bit more formal and fit in well enough.

You've no idea how relieved I am to hear that. And your red hair is flattering and looks nothing like the Weasley's.

What time is the dinner reservation?

Thank you. I don't think the person asking me meant it as an insult - she was distantly related to the Weasleys and wondered if we were related. I still found it rather insulting, though. At least I don't look like I've got spattergoit.

A quarter to six, though if you happen to be running late, it won't matter. They're until nine anyway.

Being associated with the Weasleys is an insult whether they meant it or not. What could have been a great pureblood family is now just a huge disappointment and filled with blood traitors.

I don't have any plans to be out earlier in the day, so I can't imagine why I would be late, but that's good to know.

It is, but I'm not going to hex someone over an unintentional insult. The person in question was...not quite a blood traitor, but rather liberal minded.

Certainly sounds as if you are having pleasant luck in your current pursuit.

One would think you'd have charmed her already.

Apparently I charmed the bint a bit too much to the point where she became unnecessarily comfortable with me. A mistake, I admit, but one I've already taken the necessary steps to remedy.

It's the price to pay when you lose control.

I would hardly call it losing control in this instance. It's more about letting my guard down momentarily willingly to see if things could sort themselves out on their own.

I find this very much like an excuse. But of course I'd never accuse of such a thing.

Oh, honestly, Macnair. Don't get your panties in a twist.
